At least the German people had no idea where it would all lead; but we do! We know this playbook. I ask myself many times each day, "At what point should/could we have stopped this?" Personally, I felt that once Trump lost the election in 2020, we should have fast tracked prosecution of Trump and his entire administration - especially Stephen Miller for crimes against humanity. I know that (probably) wiser heads than mine feared a civil war had we done so; however, I'm uncertain that we have avoided that outcome. I do believe in the decent people in the United States. It's very likely that much of the truths we have held to be self evident will be burned to the ground; yet, I can envision building a new United States that will give substance to the aspirations of our founding fathers. For now, we can only mourn but this won't last forever. No such ugly, corrupt, and morally bankrupt regime has ever hung onto power. We need to be patient, rational, forward thinking, and we need to expend our energy toward a vision of what we can and will become.
