Even back before the founding Benjamin Franklin complained about Germans coming here and not adapting to the British/American way of life.

The same charge was later thrown at Italians and Irish...and Czechs, and Poles, and Swedes, and Chinese, and Japanese, etc, etc.

Basically every group that has ever come here in large numbers has gotten the treatment. Some have been quickly "adopted" by the American culture and other groups took longer.
