https://usafacts.org/articles/which-cities-have-the-highest-murder-rates/

Just scroll down to the 9-page chart of per capita murders per city, and look across pages. Note that Chicago, New York, Los Angeles are nowhere near the top ten, Chicago ranking #20, New York ranks #39, LA ranks #60, lower than them all. And this data from their larger metropolitan areas within their counties.
Here's the first page...

More up-to-date rankings, with links, from Google's DeepMind AI in 2025 (sorry not to post the DeepMind URL, but it's eight inches long) ...

St. Louis, Memphis, and New Orleans are frequently cited as having some of the highest gun death rates per capita. Factors like economic instability, poverty, and access to firearms are often linked to these high rates.

Here's a more detailed look:
St. Louis, MO: Security.org reports that St. Louis has the highest number of gun-related injuries and deaths per 10,000 residents.
Memphis, TN: Memphis has a high murder rate, with 71.0 murders per 100,000 residents, according to Safe and Sound Security.
New Orleans, LA: New Orleans has also been identified as having a high rate of gun violence and homicides.
Detroit, MI: Detroit has a high murder rate and struggles with crime, often linked to economic hardships.
Baltimore, MD: Baltimore has faced significant challenges with gun violence and homicides, with high rates of both.
Kansas City, MO: Kansas City has also been cited as having a high rate of gun violence.
Cleveland, OH: Cleveland is another city that experiences high rates of gun violence and homicides.
Minneapolis, MN: Minneapolis is also on the list of cities with high rates of gun violence.
Little Rock, AR: Little Rock is another city that experiences high rates of gun violence.

Note that no matter the source, a couple of smaller cities still stand out for per capital crime, St Louis being the most consistently ranked between #1 and #3.

Here's one more as of May, 2025 ...also note that the biggest per capita crime/murder numbers are not in the nation's largest cities, so the "major cities" label actually means there are the low end population major cities, and then there are the MAJOR major cities whose populations are often 10+ times larger than the others.

More population = more crimes, BUT more 100,000's doesn't equal higher crime per capita rates.

The felon and his henchmen go after Democratic Party majority cities under the Big Lie that Blacks, the poor and the working class are criminal and dangerous. His Big Lie this time is the overarching narrative for cheating his way into a rethug win in 2028. Their culture war lingo is used for "othering" non-white, non-male Americans to divide them and trust only him and his Big Lie; and so they also believe him when he says he is their savior and their retribution for their suffering. His protection racket formula's Big Lies promise them protection against his political enemies who he claims are their enemies, too. Thus, his Big Lies play on their fears and fomenting false grievance.
And like lazy, weak willed children, they believe, and no numbers from the Reality of Earth One will convince them otherwise.
