(222 posts)If there's a gun in the home friends and family are much less safe. Guns in the home mean a much higher suicide rate. Guns in the home lead a much higher death by accidental discharge rate (e.g. kids playing with guns). Guns in the home mean greatly increased rates of intentional discharge at unintended targets (e.g. accidentally shooting a family member or friend thinking they were a bad guy). Guns in the home mean greatly elevated chances of domestic disputes going terribly wrong.
What gun in the home don't do in actually decrease the rate of victimization by 3rd party bad guys.

Then there's the fact that guns in the home actually make your home a target. Thieves love to steal guns as they're easy to transport and easy to sell on the black market.
