As much as I despised Reagan and Bush (as in loathed in both cases), I don't think they wanted me to hate them. When they enter the Gates of Hell, where both deserve to reside, they'll still be trying to get us to shake their hands and like them.

Trump revels in the hate. He's really a psychopath, but apparently that is more palatable to people than having a President who stammered during a debate.
