We should be flattered that we’re worth the attention.

For a couple of years, when anything negative appeared on DU about Monsanto or their suspected cancer-causing pesticide, Roundup, one poster would always show up to defend them, no matter how ridiculous their argument (there is no solid proof of a connection between water and dampness, or some such). As soon as Monsanto was bought up by Bayer, that poster vanished. I guess the department that paid his bills was deemed no longer worth the expense by the new German masters. At least it gave the rest of DU the closest thing possible to solid proof that commercial/political interests far above our pay grade consider DU worthy of their attention.

Then there are individual crusaders who only show up to insist that Al Franken is evil or Putin is a saint, or some other ridiculous cause that is neither logical nor true (full disclosure—I have never met Putin personally, but I know people who have).
