2. Knew that the military build up required some sort of denouement.

Couldn't just say, "Eh, just kidding", pack up the kit and go home.

A decapitation strike or operation to seize and extract Maduro crossed my mind a few times, but I figured there'd be so much security that it would fail spectacularly and predictably, and that somebody would both predict that failure and then prevent it by preventing the attempt.

But no, it didn't fail (unless there's are heaps of American dead that nobody's going to miss).

Now I guess the problem I can't predict my way through is what does the dog do now that it's caught the car? Actually put him on trial? And if the jury fails to convict ... That would prove amusing.
