in the post war era, the modern undercurrent kept growing more and more mainstream, from McCarthy to Goldwater to Nixon... and on and on... darker and more open...

Folksy talk can only work if the Dem plays hardball with it.

Frankly I want a modern LBJ. We need it right now.
