Adam Kinzinger calls the threats to Greenland trolling.
Shankar Narayan (The Concis) makes the same case in Deny the Oxygen: Why Europe Should Stop Talking About Greenland.

Europe, do not fall for it. The knee-jerk reaction by the Danish Prime Minister and Greenlands PM is exactly what Trump wants right now. He is using Greenland as a headline sponge to soak up attention and reduce to dust any accountability questions that might rise out of the treacherous transition phase now unfolding in Venezuela, as the Maduro removal is followed by the far harder task of installing a replacement government.
He wants Greenland to dominate the headlines, not the Venezuela transition. He wants Europe dragged into an emotional, reactive loop so that, weeks later, you are still stuck on Greenland while he gets a free run on Venezuela. (my emphasis)

The more you respond, the more incentive he has to stay on the line. The moment the responses stop, the line dies. This is not avoidance. It is containment.
He does not have a path to invade Greenland. The last 24 hours have already incentivized him to probe for division between Denmark and Greenland expect strategic leaks and planted narratives aimed at stirring friction. But this is all part of an elaborate bluff.
Oh yeah. What else could he possibly want to distract from besides what's happening on the ground in Venezuela? The Epstein files. Jack Smith's testimony. Easy to see why our NATO allies are freaking out, but what if it's all entertainment for Trump that also meets his need to distract?
The whole article is worth a read. He's a newly discovered gem for me.
