The internet being what it is, sourcing information can sometimes be a challenge, particularly once it has been filtered through the various strata of social media.
We have noticed over the years that The Rachel Maddow Show has been on the air that some of the things Rachel says on TV, at outside speaking engagements, or online can take on a life of their own on the internet. And sometimes things she never actually said take on a life of their own as well.
To set some of the record straight, here are a few of the more common ones to cross our radar. If you have a question about whether a quote or event is really Rachel, write to the show on BlueSky at @MaddowBlog.bsky.social and well hunt it down (and maybe even add it to this page!).
What is the deal with these YouTube accounts full of fake A.I. of Rachel Maddows voice talking about Russia and Ukraine (mostly)? We have no idea, but they spring up like mushrooms as quickly as YouTube takes them down. They dont seem to be malicious toward Rachel, which would seem to point to them having either propaganda value or just a spam-money ploy. Its not even clear if theyre part of a single campaign or multiple operators. Some of them try to evade intellectual property rules by adding a disclaimer somewhere that explains that its not really Rachel, but that doesnt make it any less confusing for most people who run into them. The good news is that all of the real Rachel Maddow YouTube video that comes from us is under the MS NOW umbrella account.
