1. We're in it, sort of, only it's not one group of states vs. another group of states

as in the first one. This time it's the federal government against the states, or at least those that are pushing back against federal overreach. The Trump regime, completely abandoning the principles of federalism, seems to view those states as hostile foreign nations to be conquered and occupied. I'm living in one of them right now, and the ICE presence feels almost like an occupation. They're everywhere and many people are afraid to go anywhere. The city actually had to close the public schools (one of which was actually invaded by ICE) for the safety of students and staff, and some businesses closed early or never opened, for the protection of their employees. If that's not an occupation I don't know what else to call it.
