(139 posts)with respect to the terms 'warrior' and 'soldier'. To me, the first term refers to someone who fights for his personal glory without regard to how his/her actions might affect the larger conflict. For them, it's irrelevant if their side wins or loses as long as they can point to some "glorious victory" they achieved on the battlefield. The soldier, on the other hand, is concerned with achieving victory for his/her side irrespective of their own efforts. So, for them, being tasked with hauling ammo to the front lines is just as important as the guys actually engaged in fighting. Or, to put it another way, the difference being a gloryhound versus putting your ass on the line with no thought of recognition beyond the thanks of your comrades. Or even more succinctly, the difference in George Armstrong Custer and Sgt. Alvin York.
