A little girl who is believed to be 6 years old, who may be nonverbal, was found on Southern Avenue SE early Tuesday. She's in the care of authorities.

The child was found in the 1300 block of Southern Avenue SE, on the Maryland line, at 1:45 a.m., police said. Authorities don't know her name and listed her as a "Jane Doe."
