... didn't get walloped by Irene near as hard as we did, even so far as pooh-poohing "a little rain". That is, until they came down to have a look. A long stretch of the highway was washed out down to bedrock by the river, which was normally around 50' wide, but was now over 500' wide, with pickups, coffins, and big chunks of houses roaring downstream. The Army dropped off chopper-loads of MREs in the first few days, and the little elementary school was giving away free donated food. BIG fun.
