My Great Grandfather joined the Iowa National Guard on his 16th birthday - the first day he was eligible to enlist. I was stationed at then Fort Bragg in 1963. I had no idea that the fort was named after a treacherous Confederate General and I now find it insulting to be asked to serve at a place named after an enemy of America.
