In reply to the discussion: Costco's unionized workers vote to authorize nationwide strike [View all]not fooled
(6,150 posts)9. Probably has to do with the new CEO
Became CEO in January 2024. I've heard he's a hardline type. Have noticed several changes at my local store that scream "micromanaging a-hole", e.g. making shoppers take everything out of their carts and put it on the conveyor belt to deter shoplifting (fine, but if I have a few large items spaced out in my cart so nothing is hiding below, it's absurd to make me take it all out although degree of enforcement varies from clerk to clerk). They're also training shoppers to use automated card scanners upon entering the store, instead of employees to check membership cards.

Didn't see that coming, I always thought Costco was more than fair, especially compared to Walmart and BJs.

The contract expired. What should they do, sign a MOU extention until you think the timing is right?

My only observation --- now I don't work there. But I feel sorry for the guys pushing 20 or 25 carts across the parking

I know. How does Walmart fend off unionization? You never hear about labor protests.

I'm pro union, folks, but I honestly don't get why the Teamsters chose a decent company to strike against
