But that pile of moldy mashed potatoes that he calls a brain is convinced that EVERYTHING is about him, ALWAYS.

That's literally how it is in Trump's warped version of reality. I think he sees people as being in 3 (often overlapping) categories:
1. People who have something he wants.
2. People who he believes owe him something.
3. People he has a grudge against.

And since Walz was the running mate of Trump's opponent in the last election, he's firmly in category 3. There's no way Trump could possibly bring himself to call Walz and express condolences, and Walz knows he'd be lying if he did. Trump's refusal to do so reveals exactly who and what he is, and I'm sure Walz knows that, too!
