(6,734 posts)... .... The DoD divides the world (and even space) up into various commands. For instance, the command responsible for the Asia-Pacific region is U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM). That command would include the Peoples Republic of China. We didn't ask nor did China authorize us to include China in USINDOPACOM. We did it because that is the part of the world that USINDOPACOM is designed to cover.
This illustration shows the geographic areas of responsibility for the geographic commands. Note the squiggly line along the edge of Greenland that puts Greenland in the European region. What this change will do is draw that line around the other side of Greenland to include it in the North American region. That's it. That's all there is to it.
So this is just a hierarchical designation as to which high ranking officers are responsible for that geographic region. It used to be one group, now it's another.
Actually, no big deal. Just another stunt.
