prohibitive; not to mention a storage issue.

I own four complete recordings of Wagner's "Ring" Cycle. The original stereo recording conducted by Georg Solti, the English National Opera Ring from the 1970's, The Seattle Opera Ring from 2012, and an LP recording of the Ring at La Scala in 1951. This is only because the Ring is such an important piece in musical history. And because differences in production make for interesting critical listening.

I would never need multiple recordings of Mozart's Piano Concerto #21 in D minor, for example, or almost anything else.
