29. A former student called me

Well over a decade ago, I told him I thought he’d be a good person to take over one of my courses.
I told him to come and help himself to any of the text books and journals and come up with his own ideas for the way forward.

He called to tell me that he was just promoted at a university in Canada and wanted to thank me. Then he paid me the compliment - he said you told me to use my imagination and come up with my own course outline and plans. You said this will now be your course not mine.
I laughed and said if we don’t trust the young ones to be able to do what we were allowed to do, then we were really bad lecturers/teachers.
