Abbott hasn't yet written his resignation letter, and Turnbull can't be sworn in until he does. Both Rudd and Gillard resigned officially the day they lost leadership.

And if he can hang on until Friday, Abbott stands to collect a $10 million pension; if not, he will get his normal parliamentary pension.

I knew he wouldn't go gracefully, but what a creep.
