I keep my cats' food bowls in the kitchen. Once the cat adjusts and is comfortable coming out from hiding, he won't need privacy to eat. In fact, one of my cats wants me to sit with her while she eats. As for sleeping, as long as he has a soft, comfortable place, he will be fine. My cats sleep on my bed with me, but if you place blankets somewhere, the cat will be fine.
