...there's very few substances that make the choices they were making seem rational in the subjective moment, and none as readily available as methamphetamine. My guess is the son was changing his clothes to go incognito and elude his mothers captors. Were he sober, he'd have had nothing to worry about besides his drug addled mother... because he was so "spun" he assumed the cops were after him, too.

I volunteer part of my time helping people with the substance abuse issues I once encumbered myself with. This story was immediately identifiable for what it is. These people need to be detoxed and treated with empathetic humanity, not arrested and set further behind.
