He hated Hitler and his gang because they weren't part of the old aristocratic ruling class, like von Stauffenberg. He wanted to reestablish rule by his class.

That would have been better than the Nazis, of course, and his personal courage is indisputable, but it's not clear that, had he succeeded, the war would have ended, or what Germany would have looked like afterwards.
