30. They feel their religion is under assault when they can't impose it on others

To them, the battle for marriage equality (LGBT) is an assault on their religion rather than a rejection of their bigotry.

With politicians you can't always be sure if they believe their own rhetoric or they're just blowing dog whistles to motivate the base to vote for them, but I think Huckabee (and especially Santorum) are true believers.
