2016 Postmortem
In reply to the discussion: I have to pay for my TRUMP voting cousin's groceries this month [View all]Hekate
(94,665 posts)53. I finally cut off a relative 5 years ago. Nothing ever changed -- it was always an "emergency"....
Month after month and year after year, until the "loans" were about 20 grand.
I was emotionally stretched to the limit by other events and ended up screaming NO at the last request when I finally snapped. Had to explain to my husband that it would never make a difference; that in the future she would stagger on with the same behavior and the same emergencies, and there was nothing we could do to make it change.
Nothing has changed, except she decided the "loans" were a gift. Oh, and she doesn't like me.
The other change? She doesn't get to emotionally blackmail me any more.
