Gun owner shoots himself and wife in church, while advocating rights to bring guns to church [View all]

Hmm Doesnt seem like all gun advocates provide safety to a church by carrying the guns to services . Is it worth the gamble? Who can predict which could protect and which will unintentionally harm?

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, the incident occurred at the First United Methodist Church in Tellico Plains, Tenn., after an 80-year-old man pulled out his gun during a discussion about guns being allowed in church. Although he pulled the magazine out of the gun, once he reloaded the mag, it loaded a round into the gun’s chamber, according to the report.

A fellow churchgoer then asked to see the .318 caliber Ruger, and according to Tellico Plains Police Chief Russ Parks, that’s when the bullets began to fly.

“He pulled it back out and said, ‘With this loaded indicator, I can tell that it’s not loaded,’” Parks said. The man then pulled the trigger.

Not only did the man shoot himself in the hand, but the bullet also entered his wife’s abdomen, before it exited. The couple were airlifted to the hospital, and charges were not filed.
