Sanders rather ill-advised "you can't stop me" tweet might have been a catalyst, though Biden was showing signs of moving up in the polls and he was always going to win SC.
Because of some odd choices (like 538's model factoring in the highly-unlikely possibility that Biden would drop out before SC), the race looked much more settled than it really was.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
