In reply to the discussion: Most Nominees don't pick a former primary opponent as VP [View all]H2O Man
(75,498 posts)I generally do not engage in many angry discussions on DU:GD-P. Lots of petty nonsense. But I am interested in politics and history, and respect Malcolm X's saying that we should study the history of politics to understand current events. I talk to people -- outside of DU and the internet -- who have common interests.
Among the conversations we've had lately is who might Joe Biden pick for VP. A few of them think Elizabeth Warren would be best. In the past, geographic issues had a great influence on who might or might not be picked. That may hold true this year, as I suspect, or not be a factor, as they think.
At this point, I would think everyone should be focused on another issue that is starting to gell, with Trump calling himself a "war president," and Jared working with elite corporate leaders to plan for the future economic issues per the crisis. These two factors are what are the foundation for the Ike-era "continuity of government" plans, updated by Bush the Elder and Ollie North under Reagan, and actually instituted by Cheney on 9/11 (Robert Bydr; Losing America: Confronting a Reckless and Arrogant President; WW Norton & Co; 2004; page 79). This could allow Trump to "postpone" elections during a national crisis, if we are not prepared for mail-in ballots.
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
