(96,043 posts)Platform planks emerging from a convention mean nothing. They mean less than nothing. They are mere pious noise. They do not bind any administration in office, or drive its policies. These will be based the apparent political realities facing officeholders once sworn in. It has been ages since a party platform meant anything, the civil rights plank of the Democratic convention in 1948 being about the most recent instance that comes to mind. The claim Sanders stays in the contest to influence the platform may well be true, but if it is, the man is an idiot, the sort who would step out his door with his shoes on his head and his feet in his hat.
