(96,043 posts)Past a certain point, which we approach the cusp of, those so poisoned by devotion to the 'Bernie' cult as to be unwilling to join the common cause will have to be written off. With the sort of regret one displays when a relative has succumbed to the bottle or the needle or the pipe, certainly, but written off all the same. The effort cannot come only from one side. That is extortionate blackmail, and giving in to it would cause more injury that trusting the blackmailer and accommodating him might gain. Defiance demonstrates strength and courage, and this is more appealing than any display of weakness. The coalition that will defeat Trump includes many middle of the road types disgusted by him, as the 2018 capture of the House shows. These people are repelled by 'Bernie', and much concession to him will cost votes here. The dead-end cultists, even if they did follow through once their demands have been met, which they can't be trusted to do, cannot muster enough votes to make up for this.
