The Wildlife News
https://www.thewildlifenews.com/
This web site was originally established by my graduate advisor for his students to share info and news about the wolf reintroductions in Wyoming and Idaho but it quickly became an entity for all things wildlife related all over the country and beyond. Ralph is retired now but handed over the management of the site to our friend George Wuerthner who shares the management with other long - involved individuals who also write many of the articles.

Federal Land Management Reaches Full Sellout Under Trump
by Kirsten Stade December 27, 2025
We are in a new era of public lands mismanagement, with industry profit elevated far above public lands potential for recreational enjoyment and wildlife, soil, and water conservation. An effort to literally sell off public lands was halted this summer in the Senate. But a number of actions that would give extractive industry far more control of 88 million acres of these lands are still in play.

Requesting a big round of applause...
For DUer, OAITW r.2.0!!!
Why you might ask?
Because he was amazingly generous in offering to put me up in his home while I searched for housing on my own in the great state of Maine.
I had been toying with the idea of leaving Montana and coming to Maine, where I spent 98% of my childhood, but was concerned about how I would be able to do it. Last year, while I was here for the eclipse, OAITW r.2.0 offered me a place to be while I searched. Also helped unload the truck and then move in here along with his wonderful son.
I finally found and moved into my apartment and am in the middle of my first week here.
A four month stay, a big garden and a bunch of doggie treats made for a reasonably good summer knowing I wasn't in a deep red state any longer. Amazing the level of stress I hadn't noticed building up until I got here. At OAITW r.2.0's I had company and help in looking at places and getting a feel for the area. He also got a room for me when I had a problem in Illinois on the way. There were odd moments, neither of us had lived with another human in a rather long time so getting used to that was different at our ages. All in all, it was a mutual benefit exercise and we both have a better living situation because of it.
So I would like DU to join me in offering big kudos to Skippa's dad for helping in such a bigly way, helping a fellow DUer seeking a better living situation for retirement on a shoestring budget. Relocating is hard and expensive, this was eased by Skippa's dad!
And, as I have come to realize and am thankful for, I'll say it again... DU ALWAYS COMES THROUGH!!*
I hope that there are other DUers out there who have had a DUer connect and lend a hand or whatever.
*As many saw last June while I was in transit and left my wallet in a restroom, Duer Sinkingfeeling and her son came out to help me get my car off and back on the trailer so I could drive back and get it! Questioneverything also showed up with spouse and helped with the unloading. They got there so fast I hadn't left the room to go meet them outside before they arrived! Bless all of you for your help as well!
TIA!
Why do I feel like...
I'm trapped in a real life version of George Orwell's Animal Farm?
Time for the daily lament!
