The Almost-Nobel Peace Prize

A close up of the FIFA Peace Prize medal that was awarded to Trump, has some right-wing Conservatives questioning the message that giving out such awards conveys.
“Trophies used to be awarded only to winners. If mediocracy becomes celebrated, the recipients of such awards will become fooled into believing that they have accomplished wonderful things, that they deserve admiration. Such awards only serve to diminish those of us who truly sweated and sacrificed, who EARNED our Nobel Peace Prizes," according to former Congressman George Santos.

Ever since seeing trump's 'compromise' suggestion for the shutdown,

that the government simply give the ACA funds directly to consumers, it has nagged me that trump inadvertently revealed something important.
Let me know if this is accurate.

I just watched Michelle Obama on Colbert's Late Show

I have participated in two No Kings protests. But, if we ever decide to elect a QUEEN, Michelle has MY vote!!

Any bill that is passed to pay federal employees during the government shutdown...

must protect those employees from being laid off by Trump. Trump would be more than happy to lay off furloughed workers, so that they wouldn't get paid.

Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen's bill would have done that.

True Shutdown Fairness Act, also would have blocked the Trump administration from implementing more layoffs during the lapse in funding.

I was doing an online search for "trump starting race war"

I have absolutely no doubt that many of his advisors (Stephen Miller immediately comes to mind) are creaming their jeans at the thought of starting a full-blown race war, and that trump could view a race war as a way to consolidate and retain power indefinitely.
Anyway, I came across this article from five years ago. The writer wanders around through history a bit, and then hits upon some clever points -- the main point being, that America has always been in a race war.

If there was a race war in America, we’d know. First of all, whites would start arming themselves while preventing black people from doing so. White people would probably start killing people indiscriminately but everyone would deny there was a problem. The government would probably start surveilling outspoken black people and monitoring protests. They’d jail innocent black people for crimes they didn’t commit and give us longer sentences for the crimes we did commit.

If there was a race war, black women would die from stuff like giving birth. If there was a race war, the country would criminalize black children from birth. If there was a race war, they wouldn’t even care about educating black students. If there was a race war, black people would disproportionately die from disease and lack of nutrition. If there was a race war, they wouldn’t even let us vote and, if we did, they’d just throw our votes away.

Kirk was calling for the release of 'every file' of the Epstein files.

So, fine -- if the trump administration is really so determined to honor Charlie Kirk, then they should certainly honor his last wish.

Ever since watching RFKjr telling that ridiculous lie about why he fired.....

the head of the CDC, I wanted to find a comparable example of someone lying who was completely incognizant of how unconvincing their lie was.
So, here's the two videos I offer for comparison.

US air force to grant military honors to Capitol rioter fatally shot on January 6

Source: The Guardian

The US air force will provide military funeral honors to Ashli Babbitt, the rioter fatally shot during the January 6 Capitol attack, marking another step in Donald Trump’s aggressive rehabilitation of the attack.

The under secretary of the air force, Matthew Lohmeier, confirmed the decision in an August letter to Babbitt’s family. The Biden administration previously denied Babbitt the honors, but Lohmeier said he was “persuaded that the previous determination was incorrect” after reviewing new information about her death.

Babbitt, 35, served in the air force and air national guard and was shot by Capitol Hill police as she climbed through a barricaded door near the House chamber in the mass frenzy to overthrow the results of the 2020 election. The air force had originally refused honors in February 2021, according to Lohmeier’s letter, saying they would “bring discredit upon the Air Force” due to the circumstances of her death. She was the only person killed by gunfire during the riot.

I provide Honor Guard services with other members of my American Legion Post at the funerals of local veterans. I am proud to do so. I would have to draw the line at such a funeral as this.
