'Loving' Maga Jezus' Continuing Assault on Consumers

US consumer watchdog recalls all staff nationwide to Washington headquarters -Reuters

WASHINGTON, May 27 (Reuters) - The top U.S. government watchdog for consumer financial protection on Wednesday said it would reassign virtually all staff nationwide to its Washington headquarters later this year, the latest move likely to weaken an agency the Trump administration is seeking to ‌minimize if not eliminate.

The decision to relocate roughly 450 employees stationed near the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's former regional offices in San Francisco, Atlanta, Chicago and New York and end remote work arrangements was likely to accelerate the recent pace of resignations.

The CFPB has lost about a third of its roughly 1,700-person workforce since the administration last year called for its abolition and froze most agency activities, according to court records.

The administration is now seeking court permission to dismiss about half of all remaining workers.

Making us 'GREAT'- More people are going hungry now than at the height of the pandemic

More people are going hungry now than at the height of the pandemic - NPR

A survey released Wednesday by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York found higher levels of food insecurity this year than during the summer of 2020, when the coronavirus outbreak sparked double-digit unemployment.

The New York Fed periodically asks Americans if they're having to skip meals, rely on food donations or receiving federal assistance to buy groceries. Replies from the most recent survey in February show hunger is a more pervasive problem now than at any time in the last six years.

Amy Breitmann, who runs the Golden Harvest Food Bank in Augusta, Ga., has witnessed the growing number of families and children in need of food.

"We have some distributions where people are sitting in a two- to three-mile line the night before a distribution starts," Breitmann says. "They're sleeping in their cars."

'We are not criminals': protests erupt as hunger strike rocks New Jersey ICE jail

‘We are not criminals’: protests erupt as hunger strike rocks New Jersey ICE jail - The Guardian

Protests against immigration enforcement at a facility where detainees are on a hunger and labor strike erupted in fresh violence on Tuesday night as federal officers sprayed chemicals and charged demonstrators outside the jail in New Jersey.

Following hours of relative quiet, a day after masked and armored Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel pepper-sprayed US senator Andy Kim, tension ramped up again outside the Delaney Hall facility on the fifth day of the strike.

The Newark-based ICE facility is operated by Geo Group, one of the biggest private prison companies in the US. According to activists and detainees, between 300 and 400 detainees are participating in the strike, demanding improved food, ventilation and medical care – and for their immigration cases to proceed.

The hunger and work strike and protests come as the Trump administration continues engaging in its controversial and increasingly unpopular, aggressive mass deportation campaign, targeting immigrants nationwide to detain and deport them.

What a Surprise!! Elon's DOGE Cuts Were Based Upon Race and Gender

Federal Judge Blocks Trump Administration’s DOGE Cuts After Finding It Used Race & Gender As Primary Factors - UPolitics

Federal Judge Colleen McMahon ruled that the Department of Government Efficiency‘s mass terminations of federal grants were fundamentally unconstitutional and were a textbook example of illegal viewpoint discrimination based on race and gender.

Judge McMahon’s ruling determined that the DOGE’s grant cuts were executed on the basis of race, gender, and other protected characteristics—representing a violation of both the First and Fifth Amendments. Her decision concluded that the DOGE staffers lacked the jurisdiction to make the grant terminations and blocked them from going through.

Judge McMahon said in her decision: “Treating Black civil-rights history, Jewish testimony about the Holocaust, the oft-forgotten Asian American experience, the shameful treatment of the children of Native tribes, or the mere mention of a woman as a marker of lack of merit or wastefulness is not lawful.”

She also went on to call out the decision to cut funding to projects related to the Holocaust because they focused on the experience of women during Nazi persecution, arguing that with the rise of anti-semitism, doing so is uniquely dangerous.

A federal judge just exposed the discriminatory truth behind DOGE’s grant cuts - The Root via MSN

It’s been over a year since DOGE began mass terminations, which resulted in hundreds of thousands of Americans– disproportionately Black women– without work. It’s now 2026, and the Black unemployment rate is still raising concerns from economists.

In addition to thousands of folks losing their jobs, DOGE was also responsible for the mass cancellation of thousands of Congress-approved grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), which U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon has officially ruled unlawful.

What should be most concerning about the decision to people of color, McMahon also took issue with DOGE’s questionable review process, which she described as “blatant viewpoint discrimination.”

The Republican Attack Upon the Right to Vote: Trump's Last Gasp Effort to Hold Onto Power

the latest in a continuing series

This staggering purge is Trump’s last gasp effort to hold onto power – op ed by Thom Hartmann - Rawstory via MSN

Trump is preparing to illegally purge tens of millions of Democratic voters from voter rolls nationally, just in time for the election. Just like Modi did to win overwhelmingly in India, following the GOP’s playbook.

This follows John Roberts and Sam Alito blatantly using phony, cooked numbers to justify eviscerating the Voting Rights Act, lying to our faces and then laughing at us like they did with the Dobbs decision and Citizens United.

In this year’s iteration, the Trump Department of Justice has demanded that all states turn over their voting rolls, complete with names, addresses, driver’s license and social security numbers, voting history, and date of birth.

They’re also requiring states to sign a “Memorandum of Understanding” that says the states will then purge from their voting rolls anybody who Republican partisans within the Trump administration — once they’ve dug into the state’s voter data — find to be a “concern”:

Republicans deploy ground troops in the states to execute ‘the plan.’ Donald Trump and the Republican Party are planning on sending troops to polling places during the 2026 midterm elections, according to a recent report. Their RNC announced that it has deployed poll watchers and election observers in at least 17 states for the midterm elections.

Trump keeps saying the quiet part out loud on changes to the 2026 election. As he’s pushed a number of executive and legislative actions in recent months, from nixing the Senate filibuster, to requiring voter ID and proof of citizenship, to eliminating mail ballots - he’s repeatedly admitted that these not so subtle actions are designed to help Republicans win the 2026 midterm elections.

Trump calls Democrats ‘human garbage’ for fighting against his election schemes. He threw a tantrum after, Sen. Chuck Schumer announced that former Attorney General Eric Holder would be joining a Democratic task force that will identify "threats" to the upcoming midterm elections.

Justice Sam Alito used deceptive DOJ data to gut voting rights. The Supreme Court's decision that gutted voting rights under section 2 of the Voting Rights Act deliberately and knowingly rested on false claims about Black voter turnout, according to a new analysis.

Alabama begged Clarence Thomas to block court-ordered Black district maps. Alabama officials directed their emergency motion asking to lift a federal court order that prohibited the state from redistricting until the next scheduled Census specifically to Clarence Thomas, a far-right jurist who oversees such requests.

Overnight power grab saw Louisiana GOP voted at 4 AM to erase Democratic seat. In a predawn vote Louisiana's Republican-controlled Senate committee approved a new congressional map that eliminated the state's second Democratic-majority district, setting the stage for GOP control of five of six seats.

Virginia’s Supreme Court ruling poses a serious threat to democracy: experts. The decision marked a significant and terrifying moment in our democracy as the court allowed an election to be cancelled after its completion.

This is not democracy: voting rights activists shocked by speed of US states moving to stifle Black voters. Donald Trump’s demand to tear up political norms has been met by Republican states eager to dust off a segregation-era playbook that maximizes the political power of white voters.

Disgraceful: All Tennessee Democrats were stripped of committee posts. Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton had stripped all members of the House Democratic Caucus of their committee assignments following protests for the state’s new Republican-backed congressional maps.

Tennessee Republicans set to remove requirement to notify voters of changes to polling places. While they removed the only Black voting district in the state they pushed to remove the requirement that voters be notified when their assigned polling places change, a move which will likely cause confusion and prevent eligible voters from casting their ballots.

Trump isn't mentally ill -- it's far worse

Trump isn't mentally ill — it's far worse | Opinion by Thomas Meisenhelder - Alternet via MSN

...calling Trump crazy is harmful to people who have a mental health condition or who have loved ones with a mental illness; second, it is inaccurate and leads to a serious misunderstanding of the man, his behavior, and it’s origins and consequences.

The majority of those with a mental illness are simply ordinary folks. In any given year 20% or more of the population has a mental health diagnosis. Therefore, at any given time, there are millions of people with a mental health condition making positive contributions to their communities.

Repeating time and time again that Donald Trump is crazy not only negatively affects the mentally ill but also seriously misunderstands the man and his policies.

Donald Trump is not crazy, he is evil. The America Heritage Dictionary definition of evil has three components. The first one is that evil means morally bad or wrong. The list of the immoral acts of (donOLD Trump) is too long to be included listed completely here, but consider just a sampling: participating in Jeffrey Epstein’s abuses, illegally detaining and deporting veterans, children, and others; using charitable donations for personal desires; separating innocent children from their families; fomenting racism and racial hatred; ridiculing the disabled; daily misogyny; supporting white supremacy; inciting violence; lying for personal gain; harming the lives of LGBTQ+ people; taking food and medical care from children and their families; and the list goes on and on.

I think some in the MSM are missing the hidden message behind Trump's praise of Xi

I've been watching MSNOW and the theme (so far) of most of the coverage of Trump's China visit has been the marveling over Trump's outright subservience and praise of Chinese President Xi Jinping. But personally I think they're missing the message (the REASONING) behind Trump's adulation.

That reason for the EFFUSIVE ass-kissing, being Xi's lifetime presidency, his iron fisted rule over 1-point-something billion people, his complete rule over his government, his complete control over the press. AND of course, Xi's ballroom. Gotta have a ballroom like Xi. For Trump it's essentially a wholly personal and, as usual, self serving promotion of that which he SO much WANTS TO BE.

And if that means abandoning Taiwan to achieve that end, Trump couldn't care LESS. After all, they wouldn't be the FIRST ally Trump's abandoned (the Kurds, Ukraine, Germany, soon to be Poland, NATO) in subservience to and adulation of despots, dictators, authoritarians and the like.

Clarence Thomas: Black Prop for White Supremacy

So having posted a piece about cowardly Alito and klansman in black Roberts, I saved the worst for last: One Clarence Thomas. Anyone who's read my posts about him, herein and long before my arrival here, already know of my absolute contempt for the man. Almost as much as for Trump himself, and for just as long.

A revelation: As I watched Tarantino's movie, Django, and more specifically, the machinations of his character known only as Stephen (there is no last name listed in the credits, though I have my own thoughts as to what step-an's last name might be) it didn't take me long to realize the similarities of Samuel L. Jackson's character to Thomas. So much so that I could not help but wonder whether it was intentional on Tarantino's part. And seems I'm not the only one who thought so, including a Minnesota attorney general. For which he was roundly criticized (by mostly right wingers, of course). But as A.G. Keith Ellison explained, it had nothing to do with appearances, and everything to do with actions.

Like I said, Roberts is a racist, and Alito a coward, and the remaining Trump justices, probably a mix of both. But Thomas.... Thomas is something far worse, imo. A Black Supreme Court justice, whose role is (and has been) to lend legitimacy to disenfranchisement, retrogression, discrimination, white supremacy and nationalism, and more specifically, hate for Black people, liberals, and other minorities.

And even more so, like Stephan, for the ZEAL with which he joyfully goes beyond the call of duty - embracing if not leading in his role of betrayer, and for FAR more 'coin' than Judas Iscariot EVER pocketed. And the motive? Perhaps equally as contemptible.

According to at least one source, Clarence Thomas allegedly told a law clerk of his that he wanted to serve for 43 years to make liberals' lives 'miserable.' In short. Petty revenge. Forget all the highbrow 'originalist' pretenses, the argumentative acrobats, etc. The man wanted to get even. And he didn't mind laying waste to the rights of Black people, women, and other minorities in the process... to him, all the better. And for PROFIT.

Not awhile back someone herein quipped that "No one hates Black people more than Clarence Thomas." Fact is, I've long suspected it true.

note: most if not all of these articles predate the recent SCOTUS anti VRA ruling:

Clarence Thomas just struck another blow to Black power - by Elie Mystal - The Nation via MSN

Clarence Thomas is the worst thing to happen to Black people since Chief Justice Roger Taney, the author of the Dred Scott decision. For nearly 30 years, he has been a kind of bouncer working the door of the Supreme Court for the white supremacists, rebuffing every attempt Black people have made to achieve equality, fairness, and justice.

snip - (the author delves into a particular case involving the US Post Office)

I would like to be able to tell you that the tragedy of this decision will be felt only by Konan, or only by Black women landlords. But if the post office can intentionally refuse to deliver a Black landlord’s mail, you know what else it can intentionally not deliver? A Black woman’s ballot. Or a Black man’s ballot. Or every ballot coming out of a zip code where Black people live. Clarence Thomas just gave the green light to Trump’s post office to intentionally “lose” mail-in ballots, six months before the midterm elections.

Black voters will be the ones most likely to suffer that deprivation of voting rights at the hands of the postal service. Clarence Thomas knows all this, and while it would be easy to say he knows this and doesn’t care, I think he does care. I think he cares a great deal about the suppression of the Black vote; he just happens to think the suppression of Black votes is a good thing. I think the destruction of Black political power has been one of the motivating factors for his entire judicial career.

To my mind, the difference between Thomas and all the white supremacists that have come before him is that most of those guys were interested in the advancement of white privilege. Thomas is motivated by the destruction of Black power. It’s a slight difference, but that difference is what makes Thomas the worst.

The worst Supreme Court justice ever - Opinion by Robert Reich - Alternet via MSN

I’ve long assumed that Samuel Alito was the worst. But I’ve come to revise my view of the court’s worst Justice.

Clarence Thomas is 77 years old. He has now served on the Supreme Court for over 34 years, making him the longest-serving member of the Court. He is a bitter, angry, severe hard-right, intellectually dishonest, ideologue. After reading his latest thoughts on America, I’ve concluded Thomas is even worse than Alito.

Thomas claims that “The century of progressivism did not go well.” Baloney. It helped America create the largest middle class the world had ever seen, while also extending prosperity to millions of Black and brown people.

The tragedy is that America turned its back on progressivism and on social progress, in part because of the Supreme Court and Justice Clarence Thomas.

Clarence Thomas accidentally exposes the GOP's biggest lie - Opinion by Thom Hartmann - Alternet via MSN

People feel like there’s a darkness that’s spread across America in the 15 months since Trump took office a second time. It’s being noticed all over the world, from the Pope to the leaders of our (formerly) allied nations, and is being embraced by dictators like Putin and Saudi Arabia's ruler, Mohammed bin Salman.

The most corrupt Supreme Court justice in history, Clarence Thomas, who’s taken millions from billionaires and then voted to promote their interests, inadvertently helped us all see clearly the source of this depravity that’s permeated so much of our government at all levels. Last week, he gave a speech at the University of Texas, Austin, and blamed the ills of the world (and America) on the rise of “progressivism.”

Thomas blamed progressivism for everything from the rise of Hitler, Stalin, and Mao to racial segregation and the eugenics movement that Hitler borrowed from America and Britain to excuse his Final Solution.

In fact, Thomas is following an old tradition that was explained a century ago when arch-conservative propagandist Joseph Goebbels famously said, “Accuse the other side of that which you are guilty.” It’s the foundation of the modern saying, “Every accusation is a confession.”

ERASURE IN PLAIN SIGHT: The Trump D.C. Plan to Replace History with HIS story.

There are two sides to the small man's coin I think. The one side, braggadocious, full of false self-pride, self centered and self aggrandizing bluster. The type who fancies himself (emphasis on 'fancies') the greatest thing since sliced bread. And the other, equally miserable side, full of loathing for men and women FAR greater (in every respect) than he. And seems to me, there's no coin smaller than one Donald-J Trump, in spite of the three inch lifts, the puffy hair, the garish red tie, and the padded shoulders of that clown blue (uniform?) of his.

His is the kind of envy that tears up perfectly crafted peace accords only to find himself struggling to achieve anything resembling the original, and that rails against Obamacare while having failed, in two maladministrations, to come up with a pale imitation, or even "the concept of" a pale imitation.

Which, btw, is why his feeble mind is in turmoil in the dead of night, railing against Obama and others, accusing them of treason for, what? Not genuflecting in his wake, or for being better human beings than he could ever be?? Can't figure which.

And which... btw, explains his contempt for all of the edifices, monuments, and landmarks in Washington D.C. that REMIND him of that former greatness that he is so envious of. That remind him of the principles, ideals, and accomplishments he so loathes - because THEY and their shared history, are the antithesis of everything HE STANDS FOR.

He's hell bent or rewriting it all. In HIS image. And it will one day be our duty to undo his blasphemy and his carnage, by restoring it (and our country... btw) to what it was BEFORE.

The dark purpose behind Trump’s Washington makeover - SALON Trump's grand plans for the nation's capital aren't just personal monuments. They are rooted in erasure

(i've captured what i could from the article, but there's so much more)

...each time I read about or see plans for (Trump's) proposed triumphal arch, which would stand in a traffic circle that marks the end of the bridge and the beginning of the cemetery’s formal entrance, I think of that view [the flicker of the eternal flame marking the graves of John and Jacqueline Kennedy, with Arlington House illuminated by floodlights on the slope above] and how it could soon be no more. Plans for the arch were preliminarily approved in mid-April by Trump devotees who sit on the Commission of Fine Arts. The graves of America’s fallen soldiers will be obstructed, the eternal flame blocked — and from the cemetery, the majestic view of the Lincoln Memorial obscured — by a 250-feet monument. To Donald Trump

Knowing his history of branding and licensing his surname, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. But there is something else beyond self-memorialization that undergirds Trump’s plans not just for the arch but also for his remake of Washington itself — an architecture of erasure that seeks to undermine the living history of Black and brown Americans, women and the LGBTQ+ community, and to paper over the legacy of the post-World War II liberal order.

Many writers, including me, have argued that history doesn’t matter to Trump. He has never shown any serious regard for it; he has never sought to learn lessons from it. The ongoing debacle in Iran is proof enough of this.

But now I think we have been wrong, at least to a degree. History does matter to Donald Trump, in the sense that he wants to alter it. The nation’s liberal past is yet another one of his renovation projects, something he believes he can gut and replace with paver-stones and country club chic. Trump knows that to elevate himself, he must first attempt to erase what — and who — came before. It’s now on us to not forget.
