Much of my area is proudly Independent (although right leaning) and I have never heard as much disdain for repukes in the last 15 years I've lived here as I've heard in the last few weeks. Between the redistricting attempt by Braun (people around here do not like "big gubment" telling them what to do) to the healthcare/SNAP/Farmer situation it's quite encouraging but memories and attention spans are short so we shall see.

Folks in the Western Caribbean and SE (including FL) Models are continuing to show a possible huirricane forming

A stalling front that is a sagging southward through the Western Caribbean could be the trigger. This is out around 10 days so it should be taken with a big grain of salt but the Models have been very persistent on this feature. Most have it forming south of Western Cuba and moving NNE very close to Jamaica then they begin to vary from up the East coast of Fl SE US and Eastern Seaboard to up through the Bahamas and out to sea.

We are also looking at a boiling hot Gulf of MEXICO and if anything forms or gets in there over the next 30-45 days (yes 45 day minimum to go!) it could explode with little warning. We've already had 2 Cat 5 hurricanes this year which is WAY above the 100 year normal but becoming the new normal. When they don't hit land people become complacent. Don't be one of those!

I finally got my SSDI to go through in April but have been fighting something I feel is insane since

I struggled for nearly 3 years, food pantry's, friends, utility assistance, SNAP and I was awarded it finally in April. I didn't even have a bank account, just a prepaid card. Imagine my delight when I got a nice back pay check . In order to cash it of course I needed to open a new bank account. I also didn't want to have all that cash in my house for good reason. I qualified for extra help when they put me on Medicare thank goodness so my drugs are costing me a couple of dollars a month (I was on state Medicaid prior and they were free, still no biggie). My SSDI monthly income checks keep me below the asset requirement my state has so that they were paying my Part B premium.

Insane part? They notified me last week they were no longer going to pay my part B premium as I had exceeded the states asset/resource limit. I asked how? It was the money in the bank. I cannot believe they can count back pay as a resource, its basically a lump sum payment of my back weekly disability check, which if paid on a weekly basis would've kept me well below the resource limit. Personally I find this insane and a rip off. I don't need nursing home care but I cant work. If I put it in a Miller Trust, they will pay my premium but I will lose access to that money. How is this fair by any stretch? I am not gaming or cheating the system. I was actually told by someone at the FSSA office I should've held onto the check for 3 months then cashed it. Is that what disabled people are supposed to do? just not cash their back pay checks or if they can don't use a bank in your name? Here's your money, fuck you you cant use it without us getting it all back. I get that that happens if you have private insurance covering your disability while your waiting but I didn't. I had bare bones HIP they call it in Indiana.

Now, to top it all off while I'm fighting this, I've just turned 63 a week ago and FSSA is saying I'm not on disability, I'm on regular Social Security. When I log into my SS account it specifically states I'm getting disability (SSDI not SSI of course)) payments. And to top it off again, my state, IN, is very restrictive on who can get a Medigap plan should I need one. I have until 10/1 to straighten all of this out. I'm scared to death (literally) if I can't get a Medigap plan I will go beyond the 6 month window and when I can get one when I'm 65 they will be able to go back on me for my health issues and jack me all to hell. WTF man?

This shouldn't be this hard. And if I didn't log into all my accounts weekly to check on things because I'm new to this I wouldn't ave known anything was happening because when I get the notices in the mail they are 2 weeks behind the documents online.

Like I said, this is all insane.
