Iran spokesman invokes Persia's defeat of Rome in apparent message to US

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, has invoked the Roman emperor Marcus Julius Philippus to send a pointed message to Washington, noting that when Rome marched east against Persia, it was the emperor who was forced to make peace “on Sasanian terms”.

The remarks are characteristic of Baghaei, a Tehran University PhD, who has made a habit of reaching for history and literature to frame Iran’s standoffs with the US.

In a recent Al Jazeera opinion article, he cited the 12th-century Persian poet Farid al-Din Attar, and said that a civilisation that “plays fast and loose with its principles” is a dying one.

Men keep 5 balloons in the air for over 16 minutes to break record

https://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2026/04/27/Guinness-World-Records-David-Rush-balloons-duo/9671777304823/

April 27 (UPI) -- Serial Guinness World Record-breaker David Rush teamed up with a novice record-breaker to take on the title for the longest duration to keep five balloons in the air.

Rush, who holds more than 350 concurrent Guinness World Records titles, teamed up with Alex Gosch, who had never attempted a world record before.

The men took on the challenge on a YMCA racquetball court in Boise, Idaho.

Rush said the goal set by Guinness World Records was 10 minutes, and his attempt nearly ended at 9 minutes and 58 seconds.

"One balloon dropped toward the floor at full speed. I couldn't reach it with my hands so I made a running lunge and connected with a flying kick and launched it back into the air. I couldn't tell if it was clean," Rush wrote online.

A review of slow-motion video footage confirmed that Rush had narrowly managed to salvage the attempt.

The record attempt lasted for a total 16 minutes and 25 seconds, more than enough to capture the title.

Mrs Javaman just made a good point

If this were an actual attempt, this wouldn’t be allowed to go on. There is an active crime scene right outside

It was staged and the orang asshole is going to milk it for all its worth

Pentagon Reportedly Asks Detroit to Use More Car Factories as Arms Factories

Pete Hegseth has previously said he'd like the U.S. economy to be placed on a "war footing."

The Wall Street Journal, citing “people familiar with the discussions,” says the Trump Pentagon has urged leaders in the U.S. automotive industry to do more for the war effort. America’s national weapons cache has, it seems, begun to look a bit depleted from all the arms we’ve shipped abroad, and rounds we’ve squeezed off lately—particularly in Ukraine and Iran.

CEOs including Mary Barra of General Motors and Jim Farley of Ford have been among the executives who have sat for talks with high-ranking defense officials about upping the production of arms in what are currently car factories, with labor from people currently employed as automotive workers.

GM, it should be noted, already makes a military vehicle called the Infantry Squad Vehicle or ISV.

In a speech in November of last year, Secretary of Defense/War Pete Hegseth described the industrial effort he’d like to see, but sounded a bit more like ChatGPT than he probably intends:

“We’re not just buying something. We are solving life and death problems for our war fighters. We’re not building for peacetime. We are pivoting the Pentagon and our industrial base to a wartime footing.”
