U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops supported G. W. Bush in 2004.

The conference did so in a manner just subtle enough to avoid jeopardizing the hallowed tax-exempt status of the church. The platform of the conference, as I remember it, fostered "tort-reform" which would shield the church from lawsuits from victims of abuse. I stopped being a practicing Catholic at that time.

I just looked up the date of the Mt. Washington tornado. It occurred June 2, 1998.

I did not realize the Mount Washington tornado was almost twenty-seven years ago.

As for the May 31, 1985, Western Pennsylvania outbreak of tornados, one of which cut across Butler County, I foolishly set out driving to Pittsburgh that evening. I drove down Route 19 just after the tornado crossed it west to east in Cranberry Township. There were bent electric-line towers and downed lines. I drove into the perimeter effects of the tornado as I started down I-79. It was indeed poor judgment which I used in deciding to drive at that time. The following day, the weather was beautiful. I drove through Beaver County and saw the path of destruction from the tornado there.

Here's to No More bad weather memories.

Serious question. What is the technical term for the overlays?

The the added markers, indicators or overlays were inserted into the photo as a means to help the viewer of the photo interpret the tattood symbols. The fact that they were inserted into the image and the fact they are designed as an interpretation aid are obvious to anyone with a basic high school education.

There has to be term used for them. I do not think that "annotations" fits. I do not like the work "photoshop" being used in this case because it is used in situations wherein there is an attempt to deceive.

In Western PA, undocumented cash bought a million yard signs for Trump.

That cash also paid for runners to stake them into the ground and otherwise distribute them. I think the cash came from Russian sources. Yard signs in Western Pennsylvania cause a bandwagon voting effect, especially when they include lies such as "Harris: War. Trump: Peace."

Most people I heard speaking about politics before the election favored Trump. In the November 2024 election, Pennsylvania saw a greater total number of votes cast for presidential candidates than in 2020. Trump won the state by about 120,000 votes. As an aside, I will mention that for for the entire ten months preceding the November 2024 election, the increase in registered party affiliations among Pennsylvania voters favored the Republicans.

In my local county, over 70,000 total votes for president were cast. Trump's margin of victory in the county was about 20,000 votes. The county's tally, pricinct by pricinct, was announced on election night. If there was chicanery with the vote tally, it would have to have been programmed into the optical reading machines at the individual precincts. I have no evidence to suggest that such chicanery occured.

Here in Western Pennsylvania, I think it was a case of low-information voters being swayed by yard signs, media advertising blitzes, and RW/Putin social media.

I followed this story and did a bit of research when he was convicted this year.

Regarding First Energy, the change-of-ownership transactions over the past five years are interesting. An investment firm with headquarters split between Taiwan and India is the major stakeholder. The global economy provides exciting opportunities for international investments. However, the bribery is unacceptable, and the paid-off former state legislator faced judgment.

Since I was in grade school, I have been fascinated by that area of the world.

My interest lies more with western Kazakhstan, specifically the region of the shrinking Aral Sea. However, the vast region of eastern Kazakhstan also captivates me. The falconers in that part of the world are an intriguing people, but, alas, their numbers are dwindling. The 4,000-year-old pyramid described in the article is about the same age as the Egyptian pyramids. Thanks for posting.

RW websites extoll her rubbish and get MAGAs to feel . . .

. . intellectually superior if they can recite a few of her arguments. Last week, I heard a MAGA at a breakfast diner exuberantly preaching her rubbish to his table guest. He was about seventy years old. The RW indoctrinators know the importance of giving the disgruntled members of our society something they can latch onto so that they can feel intellectually and politically empowered.

Thanks. I pulled that burgundy Continental photo from the web.

The year 1956 was when I was born. The last time I saw a 1956 Continental was six years ago at a car cruise. Its color was white. An elderly couple owned it. I spoke with them briefly and snapped a few photos of it as they drove off. I will send you a link to the photos when I locate them.

If the world and our country survive, future generations will not know what we have seen.

I realize that I am making a comment which is on a different subject than yours, but certain characteristics are the same. TFG's inane babble over the past eight years is something which all of us are familiar with. However, no history book fifty years from now will capture the breadth of his dysfunction, corruption and unworthiness to hold office. As you correctly point out, in any given situation of national importance, there are more material facts than the public realizes.

Of course. The "Brandon" chant was originally done at a NASCAR race.

I am dismayed when I see Maga people brazenly displaying that three-word phrase on signs and bumper stickers.

I did not watch the clip of the Faux Friends discussing President Biden's clip showing him sipping coffee from the Brandon mug. I can not stomach watching or hearing those Faux Friends.

It is just that, even within the bizzaro logic of their right-wing propaganda universe, I still do not see their point that President Biden's whimsical take on the right-wing's nasty Brandon chant is somehow an insult to rhe American people.
