'Dangerous as hell': Ted Cruz compares FCC chair's threats against ABC to mob tactics (Caveat included)

Caveat spoiler: Cruz can't stand Jimmy Kimmel. And is glad that he's gone. But he strongly disagrees with the FCC getting involved.

GOP Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday denounced Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr’s threats to pull ABC’s broadcast license as “unbelievably dangerous” and compared some of his rhetoric to “mafioso” tactics.

In an episode of his podcast, “Verdict with Ted Cruz,” released on Friday, the Texas Republican said he was “thrilled” Jimmy Kimmel was pulled off the air by ABC over his comments about conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. But he said he strongly disagreed with the government policing speech, asserting it could come back to bite conservatives when Democrats retake power.

“I hate what Jimmy Kimmel said. I am thrilled that he was fired,” Cruz said. “But let me tell you: If the government gets in the business of saying, ‘We don’t like what you, the media, have said. We’re going to ban you from the airwaves if you don’t say what we like,’ that will end up bad for conservatives.”

Though Carr’s comments have drawn widespread condemnation on the left, Cruz’s remarks represent one of the strongest denunciations of the threats against broadcasters by an elected conservative. Cruz also chairs the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, which has broad authority over the FCC.

This guy watched Charlie Kirk get assassinated. This is his experience.

. Lots of young moms with babies on front packs, wearing little sun hats.

&ab_channel=CreightonBaird

I feel really bad for the moms with their kids.
Don't know if he was a Kirk supporter, but attended because he enjoys the excitement of discourse and debate, which these events are known for.
He describes it objectively. There were protesters, pro-Palestine, LGBT etc.
He writes an extensive narrative that you can read if you don't want to watch the video.

How come Christie Brinkley never ages??? Video from 2024

&ab_channel=TODAY

There was not so flattering picture from 2022, where her lipstick was too red and roots needed work etc, but for the most part, she looks that same as when she was in Vacation.

I remember when she started modeling. Amazing. She's 71 now.

DEVO - on Netflix (worth it, even if you're not a Devo fan)

About the only thing I knew about Devo was "Whip It" and their weird costumes. I'm not a fan of 80s music. But I decided to give this documentary a whirl because I didn't really know anything about them. It's very interesting.

Check out twilight at the south pole!

Nautical Twilight started on August 22. The sun will rise on Sept 23. It stay risen until March 21st, then civil twilight will begin and nautical twilight will continue for a month.

Here's the last snap. If you see a big white ball in the sky, it's the moon!
https://gml.noaa.gov/obop/spo/livecamera.html

It's rare to see a good twilight shot on the south poll cam. The moon often interferes and the earth's rotation forces the sun to appear out of the camera's view. I got kinda lucky.

Rick Perry: I'm dedicating my life to fighting for a psychedelic drug

I’ve spent most of my adult life in public service — as governor of Texas, U.S. secretary of energy and a proud veteran. And few things have moved me like what I’ve witnessed with a psychedelic drug made from a shrub in Africa.

This month, Texas became the first state in the nation to allocate public funding for FDA-approved clinical trials of ibogaine, committing $50 million, the largest psychedelic research investment ever made by a government. It’s a bold, bipartisan move rooted in science and urgency. Ibogaine is a naturally occurring plant medicine derived from a shrub native to Gabon and surrounding countries in West Africa. It is quite literally a plant root, yet it’s changing the way we think about healing trauma, substance use disorder and brain injury.

Clinical data shows that ibogaine has the potential to interrupt substance dependence, reduce trauma symptoms and promote neurological repair. I first heard about the drug from Morgan Luttrell, a Navy SEAL and combat veteran who was elected to Congress in 2022. He learned about other SEALs traveling to Mexico to undergo an alternative treatment for trauma and addiction — something called ibogaine.

When he told me about it, I cautioned him. Like many people, I thought I knew what psychedelics were — that they were dangerous, something to stay far away from. I grew up during the Nixon era, when the message was clear: Drugs are bad, psychedelics will ruin your life, and the only responsible path is total avoidance. But I’ve come to realize how wrong that narrative was. That fear-based messaging kept us from exploring treatments that could have saved countless lives.

With Rick Perry’s backing and $50 million from the state, Texas set to become a leader in psychedelics research

Oh well, governor ooops has found a new mission. I guess he's joining the likes of John Boehner, who became a cannabis lobbyist.

About LeftInTX

Always a Democrat. I can't understand conservatives. I try to understand them, but I can't. They don't make sense. Our country has gone so far right since 1981. I was just an average American who took many Democratic values for granted when Reagan was elected. It was like the rug was pulled out from under our society. Reagan ruined our country.
