Well,it's official. I'm old and have a Cadillac in my right eye.

Gotta have it removed. Anybody have any advice? The doctor said they would replace the lens and my vision would be better. And I may not even need a prescription for that eye anymore. Fingers crossed.🤞

Prevalence of Gender-Affirming Surgical Procedures Among Minors and Adults in the US.

In this cross-sectional study of a national insured population in 2019, there were no gender-affirming procedures conducted on TGD minors aged 12 years and younger, and procedures on TGD minors older than 12 were rare and almost entirely chest-related procedures.

Additionally, when considering breast reductions among cisgender males and TGD people—a surgery that can be considered gender-affirming among both populations—most were performed on cisgender males.

Thus, these findings suggest that concerns around high rates of gender-affirming surgery use, specifically among TGD minors, may be unwarranted. Low use by TGD people likely reflects adherence to stringent standards of gender-affirming care.

Getting old sux, but sometimes it's funny.

My wife asked me to hand her a packet of onion soup mix to make dip. I handed her a packet of Italian dressing mix instead. Neither of us noticed until we dipped our chips in. We had a good laugh over that. Well, at least our taste buds aren't gone...yet!

Anyone who needs a virtual hug right now, check in.

It's a rough time for a lot of people right now. Let's all gather together and support each other through these uncertain times. Especially my LGBTQIA friends and women. And also, people of color or immigrants.

Times are uncertain right now. It's scary, but let's band together and support each other. Let us come together for support and acceptance.

Puberty blockers for trans kids are reversible.

We aren't talking non reversible surgical procedures. These are hormones that prevent certain sexual characteristics to take place. For a lot of trans kids these are the answer to make them feel right with their bodies. It can help keep trans kids from suicidal ideation or other self destructive behaviors. It is REVERSIBLE!!!!! I can understand not allowing surgical procedures on kids 16 or under. I don't agree, especially with counselling and parental approval. But, reversible puberty blockers? OMG! Let these kids feel OK within their own skin!!

Republicans don't care if women die from abortion bans -- but they don't want you to know about it.

Women will keep dying, but the GOP is working hard to destroy the evidence.

By Amanda Marcotte
Senior Writer

After the Supreme Court ended federal abortion rights in 2022, there was a robust debate between pro- and anti-choice activists over whether or not banning abortion would kill women. Pro-choicers pointed to evidence, from both history and other countries, showing that abortion bans kill women. Anti-choice activists dismissed the record and pointed to toothless "exceptions" in abortion ban laws as "proof" that women could get abortions to save their lives.

The latter argument was frustrating not just because it was wrong but was generally offered in bad faith. Anti-abortion leaders know that abortion bans kill women. They don't care. Or worse, many view dying from pregnancy as a good thing. In some cases, it's viewed as just punishment for "sinful" behavior. Other times, it's romanticized as a noble sacrifice on the altar of maternal duty. But conservatives are aware that this death fetish cuts against their "pro-life" brand. So there was a lot of empty denials and hand-waving about the inevitable — and expected — outcome of women dying.

I heard something disturbing and sad standing in line at the grocery store.

The clerk was talking to a customer about her 1st and 2nd husbands. The first was Mexican and the 2nd was Honduran. A young black man behind me turned to his black female companion and said, "Yeah, and trump's gonna send their asses back, that's why we voted for him!" They both just giggled.

I was so sad and hurt for them. Their hatred for Latinos was paramount to the racism of the orange blobfather. I guess hate sells. Sad, but true.

My Thanksgiving Day menu:

Turkey, cut in to pieces and dry brined with salt. Roasted to a delicious and moist delight. Cut up, it only takes about 1 hour. You can take the breasts out at the perfect temperature that keeps them tender and succulent. Then, you take out the thighs, drum sticks and wings, I like them cooked a little longer.

Cranberry sauce. Canned because we prefer that.

Cornbread dressing from a box because we don't think there's really that much difference. And it's easier.

Mashed potatoes with lots of butter and half and half.

Gravy, made from the innards, neck bone and back bone.

Brussel Sprouts, fresh but sautéed with bacon to a still sort of crunchy bite.

Collards made with smoked turkey wings. My southern heritage.

Pinto beans, also made with smoked turkey wings. They are traditional for my wife's family. They call them brown beans. Mid Western.

And the piece de resistance? Homemade sweet potato pie with a pecan crumble topping. Served with real whipped cream.

Of course we started tonight and will finish tomorrow. I was going to make homemade Parker House rolls, but I am just too damned tired. 😆
