The dangerous kitchen
If it aint't one thing it's another
In the middle of the night when you get home
The bread things are all dry 'n' scratchy
The meat thing
Where the cats ate through the paper
The can things with the sharp little edges
That can cut your fingers when you're not looking
The soft little things on the floor that you step on
They can all be dangerous
Sometimes the milk can hurt you
(If you put it on your cereal
Before you smell the plastic container)
And the stuff in the strainer
Has a mind of its own
So be very careful
In the dangerous kitchen
When the night time has fallen
And the roaches are crawlin'
In the kitchen of danger
You can feel like a stranger
The bananas are black
The got flies in the back
And also the chicken
In the dish with the foil
Where the cream is all clabbered
And the salad is frightful
Your return in the evening
Can be less than delightful
You must walk very careful
You must not lean against it
It can get on your clothing
It can follow you in
As you walk to the bedroom
And you take all your clothes off
While you're sleeping
It crawls off
It gets in your bed
It could get on your face then
It could eat your complexion
You could die from the danger
Of the dangerous kitchen
Who the fuck wants to clean it?
It's disgusting and dirty
The sponge on the drainer
Is stinky and squirty
If you squeeze it when you wipe up
What you get on your hands then
Could un-balance your glands and
Make you blind or whatever
In the dangerous kitchen
At my house tonight

Molly Ivins flashback
Ran across this piece from 1997 in the Texas Observer, written by Molly Ivins. I must say I have not seen anyone like her on the political scene since her passing. We are in sore need of her humor here in Texas, with Republicans still running roughshod over anything and everything of value in Texas.
Three strikes and youre out? Watch Texas spend more on prisons than it does on schools. Thinking of making your tax structure more regressive? Come to the Lone Star State and see how its done.
The latest brainstorm to afflict our friendly pols in Austin is school vouchers. Consider the beauty of this nifty scheme as it might eventually be worked out under the guidance of the Texas Lege. To improve the public schools (I swear, thats how the advocates are advertising this lunacy):
We give vouchers to all the students who are already in private or religious schools around the state. Right there, before anybody else even gets a voucher, we will have taken, say, $1 billion out of the budget for our public schools. Shrewd move, eh?
We also give all the kids now in public school a voucher, thus theoretically enabling these children to attend the schools of their parents choice: Unfortunately, private schools might find themselves under no obligation to accept any of our kids; they could be rejected because of their religious affiliation, their disabilities, on the grounds that theyre not bright enough, because the school administrators dont like their looksany reason not specifically excluded by law. The Texas Freedom Network, a normally sensible group of good guys, is running around like Paul Revere, trying to alert the citizenry to this dread downside of the school voucher idea. Proposed voucher legislation would allow private schools to recruit the best athletes and students at taxpayer expense. Folks, were talking football now! I knew youd be concerned. Quel horrifying thought: The whole high school football tradition is in dire peril. Stop the madness now!
THIS CONCEPT IS SO BAD THAT IT HAS AN EXCELLENT CHANCE OF PASSING THE LEGISLATURE.
Sure do miss Molly. Had the pleasure of meeting and spending some time with her at Jim Hightower's Rolling Thunder Tour in Austin, TX back in 2003. The rest of this article can be found here
where'd standup comedy go?
Haven't seen any on HBO in seemingly forever. Don't have a Netflix account.
So, has all the standup migrated to Netflix?
Or has Trump put a chill in the funny people?

James Fell - Rudy Giuliani
Didn't see a post here in Editorials on this one. Love these satire writers.
It took four days to call the 2020 U.S. Presidential election for Joe Biden, but Rudy Giuliani wasnt fucking having it. So, on November 7, 2020, he held a press conference to challenge the results at the Four Seasons Total Landscaping. Located in Northeast Philadelphia, with a dildo store on one side and a crematorium on the other, Rudy was stuck between a cock and a charred place.
It was a metaphor for the Manchurian Cantaloupes presidency. He did lose, FYI. You disagree? Youre in a cult. Biden got seven million more votes than Cadet Bone Spurs and took 306 Electoral College votes for a healthy margin of victory. Pennsylvania was one of the states that swung to Biden as absentee ballots were counted, but lapdog Rudy called bullshit on his deranged bosss behalf, calling a press conference to protest. Trumpelthinskin tweeted it, saying the event would be held at the Four Seasons, Philadelphia. The hotel, a fancy one in downtown Philly, said no its fucking not. Nothing was booked at the 5-Star residences.

The owners of Four Seasons Total Landscaping, who proclaim to be non-partisan, cashed in bigly on merchandise, selling Make America Rake Again and Lawn and Order stickers and T-shirts.

while waiting in line at the airport
Marianna Hernandez was waiting in line for her flight.
Guy #1 turns to his friend:
"If capitalism is so great, why are we $39 TRILLION in debt?"
Guy #2, without missing a beat:
"Because of socialist programs, obviously."
I closed my laptop. I needed a moment.
Because let's actually look at where the $39 trillion came from. Not feelings. Not talking points. Numbers.
💣 THE IRAQ & AFGHANISTAN WARS: $8 TRILLION
No WMDs found. No democracy built. Two countries left in chaos. That's not socialism. That's bipartisan warmongering with a Lockheed Martin logo on it.
💣 THE 2008 BANK BAILOUT: $700 BILLION (+ $12 TRILLION in Fed support)
Wall Street gambled with your mortgage, crashed the global economy, then got handed a check with YOUR name on it. The banks kept their bonuses. You kept your debt. That's not socialism for the poor that's socialism for the rich.
💣 THE 2017 TAX CUTS: $1.9 TRILLION added to the debt
Sold as a gift to the middle class. Apple alone saved $47 billion. Your check? Maybe $40 a month. The debt? $1.9 trillion heavier.
💣 THE US HEALTHCARE SYSTEM: $4.5 TRILLION per year
America spends MORE per person than any country on Earth and gets LESS. A hip replacement in Spain? 6,000. In the US? $40,000. Medical bills are the #1 cause of personal bankruptcy in America. That's not too much socialism. That's the cost of having none.
💣 PENTAGON BUDGET: $886 BILLION in 2024 alone
Larger than the next 10 countries COMBINED. Meanwhile your bridge is crumbling and your kid's school has a GoFundMe for pencils.
Now. Let's talk about socialism "failing."

The SPLC indictment is exactly what you think it is--pure BS
Good Opinion piece in the Alabama Political Reporter on the DOJ vs SPLJ
COURTS Opinion | The SPLC indictment is exactly what you think it ispure BS
by Josh Moon
4/22/26
It has been said that a prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich. Apparently, the way to do so is with pure bullsh*t.
We know this to be true because the Trump Department of Justice, using grade-A BS, managed to sucker a Montgomery grand jury into a multi-count indictment alleging fraud, conspiracy and wire fraud against the Southern Poverty Law Center on Tuesday. To put that another way, the guys who dont have time to bring charges against a single human male for the multitudes of child rape allegations contained in the Epstein files, managed to find a conspiracy to promote racism perpetrated by SPLC because it paid confidential informants who were members of hate groups.
snip
The SPLC paid bad people to give good information on other bad people and bad organizations. Or to put it another way: It did exactly what we all thought the SPLC has been doing for years.
And really, thats what this is all abouthitting back at an organization that has litigated against hatefulness, discrimination and bigotry. Because we have the absolute worst people imaginable in charge of our justice system.
They are on a rampage against decency and against any group of people who dared stand up for it. The SPLC has long been a shining star for exposing hateful groups and awful humans.
That made it the biggest target.

If no one can see the video, I will delete. Hopefully this has not been posted already.

Interesting Cato doc from 2021 re Biden immigration
Bidens Open Border!!!!!! It has become a standard go-to by the Guardians Of Pedophiles.
https://www.cato.org/blog/bidens-border-policy-not-open-borders
Snip
Practically since his first week in office, President Joe Biden has faced repeated criticisms from Republicans and some Democrats that his border policy amounts to open borders. This criticism is not simply inaccurate: it is unhinged from reality in a way that distinguishes itself from normal political hyperbole. Indeed, U.S. immigration policy is effectively closed borders, and Bidens immigration policies and goals are largely the same as those of President Donald Trump.
President Biden has not suddenly ended Americas immigration prohibition and opened up U.S. borders to almost anyone who wants to come (as was largely Americas immigration policy from 1776 to 1924). Instead, he has far more vigorously enforced immigration prohibition than the law requires, narrowing the few exceptions to the universal ban on legal immigration.
For example, one exception is for those facing persecution in their home countries. Biden has undisputed authority under the law to admit as many refugees from abroad as he wants. The president sets the limit and picks whoever he considers of concern to the United States. Yet Biden is on pace to admit the fewest refugees in the history of the U.S. refugee program, fewer than 10,000.

Tai Chi chair
Are you getting bombarded with pitches for "Tai Chi chair?"
I confess that a few months ago I did a few searches online for some Tai Chi classes/instruction where I live. Unfortunately, there is nothing in this area. No one. Martial arts? Sure. Yoga classes? No problem. But instruction in some Tai Chi? Sorry, pal. But, as you may expect, after you do a search like that, suddenly you get all kinds of pitches for what you were searching for in your social media feed. (I confess, I'm talking Facebook here).
Every day I get 5-10 pitches for "Tai Chi chair." Get toned and drop 10% of your body weight? By exercising in a chair? Sounds great, right? Invariably it takes 5-10 minutes just to go thru all their screens to get your "personalized plan," (while forking over a bit of personal data in the process.)
And then you discover the pricing.
Don't want to get too long-winded here, but has anyone here on DU tried Tai Chi chair? If so, how did it work out?
My SCAM ALERT is ringing.
(ok, maybe this isn't the best forum for this?)

One of my fave musicians. Too bad he doesn't seem to want to tour anywhere but Canada, but can you blame him?
