TomSlick's JournalHot Springs, Arkansas No Kings Protest
I'd say something more than 400 people in park on Central Avenue at Federal Courthouse.
People of all ages. Just a bunch of Arkies peaceably assembling to seek a redress of grievances.
A guy showed-up as a counter protester but the crowd ignored him and he quickly left.
UPDATE: The state-wide newspaper reported the crowd size as approximately 500 and that the counter protestor was arrested. I didn't see the arrest or why he was arrested.
ACLU training for No Kings Protest.

The ACLU is offering "Know Your Rights" training for this weekend's No Kings Protest.

If you sign-up, you will receive a Zoom link to the training. Mine arrived in about an hour after signing up.
I'm a lawyer but have no experience in this area. I recommend the training.

Hay Grandpa. What's for supper?
Spatchcocked chicken, BBQ beans, and pineapple pig shots from the smoker.
I ain't here to help you lose weight.
I had a cornea transplant years ago in my right eye. It's a long PAINFUL story
but it comes down to a condition called keratoconus - cone shaped cornea.
Things have been fine for years but now my eye doc tells me I need a transplant in the left eye AND no one does the old-fashioned surgery any more. I now have to go to Houston - six hours away - not once but twice.
I get it, I'm lucky that the eye can almost certainly be saved, the new procedure has better results, and a shorter recovery. But Houston?
To add insult to injury, my eye doc says "if you were my father, this is what I would recommend." TRANSLATION: Listen, old coot, this is what must be done.
Arkansas DUers Call to Action.
Please sign-up and attend on of the Hands-Off protests in Arkansas.
We need to show Sara and the MAGA state leadership that we aren't taking this sitting down.
Follow this link: https://www.mobilize.us/handsoff/ I see a protest scheduled in Little Rock and Fort Smith. There's also one in Shreveport for Arkies living along the southern border.
I was in high school when Blazing Saddles was released. A friend and I went to see it at the local small town theater.
There is a scene in which Hedley Lamarr is engaged in a monologue. All the while he is fondling a female statuette. My friend and I were howling with laughter and the rest of the audience had no idea why.
The Arkansas Democratic Party has sent a mass e-mail concerning House Bill 1204. The e-mail is blatantly untrue.
HB 1204 seeks to change the law in Arkansas that personal injury plaintiffs can recover medical bills that have been neither paid nor remain owing - bills that have been written-off.
The state party's e-mail contains a list of horrors, none of which are true. I suspect the state party simply took the text given them by a plaintiff's lawyer without reading the bill.
I e-mailed the state party about the untrue statements in the mass e-mail. So far no response but hope springs eternal.
Democrats should stand for truth. The Republicans have the misinformation market cornered.
The bill can be found at https://arkleg.state.ar.us/Home/FTPDocument?path=%2FBills%2F2025R%2FPublic%2FHB1204.pdf
I had a decision to make today.
One of the local civic clubs posts flags at local businesses on some National holidays but not on MLK Day.
My answer has been to put out my own flag outside the office on MLK Day. I hesitated to do so today for fear of sending an unintended message that I was celebrating the inauguration.
I decided that it's my flag and that Trump and the MAGAts are not going to take it from me. My office may be the only one on Main Street flying a flag for MLK Day, but it's proudly waving.
Hey Grandpa. What's for supper?
Smoked baby back beef ribs, baked potatoes, and brussels sprouts.
I smoked the ribs. Herself did the veggies. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
