Speaker Johnson orders US Capitol flags raised to full height for Trump's inauguration
House Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday ordered that flags at the U.S. Capitol be raised to their full height on Inauguration Day, pausing a 30-day flag-lowering order following the death of former President Jimmy Carter. The Republican leaders decision means that President-elect Donald Trump will not take the oath of office for his second term under a half-staff flag, a prospect that he had previously complained about. It mirrors actions taken in recent days by some Republican governors who ha ...
'Want To Take It Outside!' House Devolves Into Chaos After Nancy Mace Challenges Democrat To a Fight
Jan 14th, 2025, 4:27 pm The House Oversight Committee went off the rails on Tuesday as Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) fumed at Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) for using the term child in reference to her, resulting in Mace asking the Texas Democrat if she wants to take it outside. Somebodys campaign coffers really are struggling right now. So she cant keep saying trans, trans, trans, so that people will feel threatened. And child, listen, Crockett said in a clip that quickly went viral, hitting ...

Trump says he will create new agency to collect revenue from foreign sources
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said on Tuesday he will create a new government agency called the External Revenue Service "to collect tariffs, duties, and all revenue" from foreign sources as he readies new import tariffs ahead of his inauguration next week. Trump said in a social media post he would create the department on Jan. 20, the day he takes office as president for a second term, adding that Americans have been taxed for too long by the Internal Revenue Service. "Thr ...
Trump again demands new trials in E. Jean Carroll cases, complains of 'pile-on' with 'inadmissible' character evidence
Jan 14th, 2025, 2:27 pm President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday asked a federal court of appeals to reconsider taking on his request for a new trial in the defamation case brought and won by writer E. Jean Carroll. In December 2024, a three-judge panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit turned down a substantially similar request. The panel determined the district court had not made any error or combination of errors that affected Trumps substantial rights. Now, ...
Special Counsel Report Says Trump Would Have Been Convicted in Election Case
(NY Times) Jack Smith, the special counsel who indicted President-elect Donald J. Trump on charges of seeking to cling to power after losing the 2020 election, said in a final report released early Tuesday morning that he believed the evidence was sufficient to convict Mr. Trump in a trial if his success in the 2024 election had not made it impossible for the prosecution to continue. "The department's view that the Constitution prohibits the continued indictment and prosecution of a president is categorical and does not turn on the gravity of the crimes charged, the strength of the government's proof or the merits of the prosecution, which the office stands fully behind," Mr. Smith wrote. He continued: "Indeed, but for Mr. Trump's election and imminent return to the presidency, the office assessed that the admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial."
Special counsel Jack Smith personally denounces Trump's conduct, calls his accusations 'laughable'
(ABC News) In a final rebuke to the former president he investigated and prosecuted for more than two years, special counsel Jack Smith personally denounced Donald Trump for levying "laughable" and baseless attacks on the federal prosecutors who brought two criminal cases against him. The stark criticism of the president-elect was included in a letter, obtained by ABC News, that Smith sent Attorney General Merrick Garland last week accompanying his final report detailing his election interference investigation into the former-and-future president.
The Great MAGA Schism of 2025 is only getting uglier
(Eugene Robinson) Donald Trump hasnt been inaugurated yet, and already two bellicose titans of the MAGA universe are waging total war against each other. Stephen K. Bannon, Trumps rumpled onetime chief strategist, vowed last week in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Serra that he will get Elon Musk kicked out of Trumps inner circle by the time Trump is sworn in on Jan. 20. He is a truly evil guy, a very bad guy, Bannon said of Musk. And that was one of the nicer things Bannon said about the worlds richest man, who spends so much time at Trumps side that he might be mistaken for a member of the Secret Service detail, minus the earpiece and the muscle tone.
Enraged Dems warn Johnson not to condition California wildfire aid
(Axios) House Democrats are warning Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) that tying federal wildfire relief for California to the debt limit could set a new precedent that would come back to bite Republicans. Disaster prone red states like Florida and Louisiana Johnson's home state could face a similar squeeze from Democrats if they retake the House, lawmakers told Axios. Johnson told reporters Monday that, "I think that there should probably be conditions on that aid. That's my personal view."
