Harris gains enough pledged delegate support for a likely Democratic nomination

(Washington Post) A majority of Democratic delegates have pledged to support Vice President Harris as the party’s next presidential nominee, signaling she is likely to secure the nomination next month. To win the nomination in the first round of voting, a candidate needs the support of at least 1,976 delegates out of nearly 4,000. As of Monday evening, 2,214 delegates from at least three dozen states had endorsed Harris, according to a survey of delegates by the Associated Press.

The simple reason why Kamala Harris has Donald Trump running scared

(Salon) It was mere moments after President Joe Biden announced he would not run for re-election when the new narrative of the 2024 election snapped into place: The prosecutor vs. the criminal. Vice President Kamala Harris got Biden's endorsement immediately and, despite all the wishcasting articles from political journalists longing for a dramatic Democratic convention fight, it appears the party is swiftly lining up behind the former senator from California. Her jobs before getting to Washington D.C., as a prosecutor, San Francisco district attorney and California state attorney general, drew the most attention.

With Biden out, Vance may be the wrong pick for Trump

(Politico) Trump already has a problem with women voters — polls have consistently shown that the proportion of women planning to vote for him this November is smaller than those who did in 2020. And Vance has nothing to offer Trump on this score — quite the reverse, he risks compounding his boss’s problem. Presumably, Trump chose Vance as his VP candidate largely to fire up the MAGA base and boost the Republican ticket in Rust Belt states. But that was a choice made when Biden was still heading the Democratic ticket. Now that he’s not, Vance may well become a liability.

JD Vance repeatedly indicated in 2016 that he believed Donald Trump had committed sexual assault

(CNN) Ohio Sen. JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee, repeatedly indicated in 2016 that he believed Donald Trump had committed sexual assault, even suggesting in one TV segment that in a “he said, she said” situation Trump was less credible than one of his accusers. Vance appeared on a MSNBC segment in October 2016 on Trump’s alleged sexual misconduct in which an interview with Jessica Leeds, a former salesperson who accused Trump of groping and forcibly kissing her during a flight in the 1970s, was played. Vance said it was hard to believe Trump’s denials over Leeds. “At a fundamental level, this is sort of a ‘he said, she said,’ right? And at the end of the day, do you believe Donald Trump, who always tells the truth? Just kidding,” said Vance sarcastically. “Or do you believe that woman on that tape?” he said, referring to Leeds.

AP-NORC Poll: About 60 Percent of Americans Want Trump to Withdraw from Presidential Race

(Bucks County Beacon) Most Americans want Donald Trump to drop out of the race. Most Americans believe Trump is dishonest. Most Americans reject Trump’s vision for the country. And most Americans don’t trust Trump to handle a crisis. These are the damning results of an AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey released on Wednesday. The poll shows 57 percent of Americans want Trump to drop out of the race: 51 percent of Independents, 86 percent of Democrats, and 26 percent of Republicans.

Biden calls for justice after footage released of police killing Black woman

(The Guardian) Joe Biden has called on Congress to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, moments after shocking police video was released showing an Illinois officer fatally shooting Sonya Massey after she called police fearing a home intruder. In his first public statement since dropping his bid for re-election, Biden said the shooting of Massey, a 36-year-old Black woman, by white Sangamon county sheriff’s deputy Sean Grayson, in her home in Springfield, after a dispute over a pot of boiling water, “reminds us that all too often Black Americans face fears for their safety in ways many of the rest of us do not”.

'It's Gonna Take a Civil War': Trump Campaign Speaker Warns of Violence if Dems Win

(Rolling Stone) An elected GOP politician from Ohio is warning that if Donald Trump doesn’t win the 2024 election it will mean “Civil War.” State Sen. George Lang was one of the warm-up speakers Monday at a Trump campaign rally Monday, where vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance spoke solo for the 2024 GOP ticket for the first time. The rally was held in the suburb of Middletown, Ohio, where Vance grew up — just days after a Republican National Convention at which Trump had tried to stage a show of national unity. “I believe wholeheartedly that Donald Trump and Butler County’s J.D. Vance are the last chance to save our country, politically,” Lang said. “I’m afraid that if we lose this one, it’s gonna take a civil war to save this country.”

RFK Jr. wanted a White House job in exchange for endorsing Trump: report

(Business Insider) Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is mired in another scandal, as he floated the idea of endorsing Donald Trump's presidency in exchange for a future job at the White House, four sources told the Washington Post. According to the anonymous sources, Kennedy, the independent presidential candidate, hoped to manage a slate of health and medical issues. The conversations reportedly began just hours after a would-be assassin targeted Trump on July 13, but did not result in an agreement.
