Supreme Court upholds birthright citizenship, blocks Trump order

(CNBC) The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the right to citizenship for people born in the United States, rejecting an executive order by President Donald Trump that sought to undo that longstanding constitutional principle for children born to many immigrants. “Children born in the United States to parents unlawfully or temporarily present are ‘subject to the jurisdiction’ of the United States and are citizens at birth under the Fourteenth Amendment’s Citizenship Clause,” the majority decision written by Chief Justice John Roberts said.

DC's record-breaking fireworks delayed as Trump turns July 4 celebration into another MAGA rally

(The Independent) A record-breaking firework show in Washington, D.C., will be delayed as President Donald Trump turns the July 4 celebration into a campaign-like rally. Not only will it be the biggest July 4 fireworks show in D.C., but the longest. It will last about 40 minutes, about twice as long as usual, according to event organizers. “On July 4th, at The Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument, in beautiful and safe Washington D.C., we are going to host the most spectacular TRUMP RALLY of them all, a ‘TRIBUTE TO AMERICA,’” the president wrote on Truth Social earlier this month.

U.S. ‌crude stocks have rapidly declined in recent weeks due to strong export and refining demand for American oil.

Trump is using a $500M no-bid contract to build his White House ballroom

(Washington Post) White House officials last year secretly awarded a no-bid contract worth up to $500 million for the construction of the East Wing ballroom in an unusual arrangement that sidestepped typical contracting procedures designed to control costs, according to a copy of the agreement obtained by The Washington Post. The White House routed the contract through the Executive Residence, the document shows, an office that is exempt from rules that require federal agencies to solicit competitive bids and disclose details to the public.

Key panel advances Johnson's plan to merge SAVE America Act with NDAA

(The Hill) The House Rules Committee on Monday advanced the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a must-pass defense bill, sending it to the floor for consideration. The committee reported out a rule along party lines by a vote of 8-4 that would merge the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act to the NDAA in a special process known as MIRVing. Several conservative hardliners previously said they would oppose a procedural rule that would tee up a debate and final vote on legislation until action is taken on the SAVE America Act – and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) announced the plan as a way to appease the holdouts.

Trump whines it 'does not count' after Supreme Court demands $5 million payout

(Dagens) Donald Trump just lost his attempt to block a multimillion-dollar payout. The Supreme Court decided on Monday to ignore his appeal. That decision locks in a prior civil verdict against the president. A jury previously found him liable for sexually abusing and defaming E. Jean Carroll. The money is already waiting in a court-controlled bank account. Because he deposited the funds last year, the author should receive her payment shortly. The legal defeat triggered an immediate outburst online.

He's missed more than 100 votes in Congress this year and hasn't been seen publicly in Washington or his district despite winning the Republican nomination to serve another term.
